The Sumerians have creation similar myths to the Jewish people. Replace Enlil to Yahweh(God)and they almost Identical. http://faculty.gvsu.edu/websterm/SumerianMyth.htm
Thank you Rick!!!! And, again thank you - yes please feel free to contribute anything.
Yet, as I mentioned before, according to what is stated in the Scriptural documented text I have not found any of this information. We know this is true (what you've stated); yet, from the internal evidence the ancients situation was just "accepted" and the Abram story delivered.
The only "problems" I can find with the research, is, first...the Bible being used as the basis for evidence of Pagans in ancient history. The Bible was penned by men, its format was designed by the Church, one that was determined to oust any mention of Paganism at all, so as to ensure the congregation's loyalty.
The old adage, "History is written by the victors", is very remarkably true in this case.
The second issue I find...Referring to the Akkadians, Sumerians, Chaldean and any other people outside of Biblical reference, is purely inclusive for research sake. We KNOW they existed, as evidenced by the excavation sites in Ur, the buildings types, archways, structures that PREDATE Roman architecture and Christian times in history.
Yes, there are MANY "Myths" surrounding the idea of creation. It just so happens that Abram's account was handed down by word of mouth, or even by written history (as he was from Ur and the Sumerians are credited with the first WRITTEN and recorded history), so, even with written accounts of "visions, chats with God or dreams", angels visiting him, almost killing his son for a sacrifice, most of these stories are seen as pure rhetoric and as parables, stories that deliver a moral agenda.
I know it's hard to accept anything outside of Biblical history for many Christians, as this is the basis of faith based religion, but believing what is delivered, after centuries of refining, adding, subtracting and "cutting/pasting" to suit the time, makes the Bible even more "Myth" like.
Third, the research included in this work, is leaving out some very important facts. Example: Council at Nicaea (the MANY council sessions with church leaders and the subsequent exclusion of the Pagan representation during the formatting of modern scriptures), the deliberations of whether or not Jesus should be represented as divine or as mortal. There were several times that various religious representatives were excluded from these sessions after their opinions were found to be counter productive in the church's main plan.
I DO like your spin on some of the info, but I would challenge you to dig deeper than just one history lesson. After all, when it's all said and done, the Native Americans that were conquered, destroyed, relocated and subsequently "enslaved", could very well play into the same Egyptian and Hebrew story. ;) You and I both know that history lesson has been quietly shoved under a massive rug of denial and political ignorance for centuries.
